The Salsa Summer Standoff is a family-friendly event that incorporates a Salsa cooking and tasting contest, live entertainment, interaction with local vendors, fun and educational activities for children combined with a day of fun for the whole family. This event benefits Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Buchanan County. The entire community is encouraged to participate.

 

Entering the Competition

Those who choose to compete in the Salsa Summer Standoff may complete the attached application. Each competitor/ team may choose to compete in one of the three categories below and may choose one category of Salsa that they would like to present to be judged. If a competitor/ team chooses to showcase more than one salsa for judging, there will be an additional charge of $20 for each salsa that is entered. Each competitor/team will be provided a 10×10 space and one 8 foot table. Additional space can be purchased if noted on the application. Electricity will be provided if noted on the application. Each competitor/team will need to provide their own tent with three sides (per the health department), chairs, extra tables and any materials needed to prepare the Salsa. All competitors/team must be present for the Health Department Meeting prior to cooking of the Salsa. All Salsa and components must be prepared on-site.

Booth

Competitors/Teams are encouraged to decorate their booth to compete for a Special Prize!

 

Judging

Judging will be based on Presentation and Taste.

Any Color, ingredient or texture is acceptable.

 

Awards

Overall Category Winners in Mild, Hot and Muy Caliente! will receive a $100 Cash Prize and bragging rights until next year.

Winners will also be presented a framed certificate to proudly display.

REGISTRATION / SET UP TIME: 7:00 AM

MANDATORY HEALTH DEPARTMENT MEETING: 8:00 AM

OPEN TO PUBLIC: High Noon

TASTING / JUDGING: 1:00 PM

AWARDS PRESENTATION: 5:00 PM
