Spring is a Time for New Beginnings

An Important Message from
Hillcrest Transitional Housing

For 42 years, Hillcrest Transitional Housing has helped homeless families, individuals and youth progress to self-sufficiency by utilizing a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. Unlike other organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest Transitional Housing’s primary objective is to address the total life situation of homeless families and help them build personal stability.

In an effort to better serve our clients and make an even greater impact on the homeless population of the greater Kansas City region, Hillcrest Transitional Housing is making an important change. As of March 1, 2018, previously independent Hillcrest sites have reorganized into a single organization. This reorganization will strengthen the administrative structure of Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and will expand the reach and impact of our programs and services.

What Has Changed

Prior to this change, there was a network of Hillcrest Transitional Housing affiliates on both the Kansas and Missouri side of the state line. These organizations shared the same mission and operated under the same umbrella, but were separate 501(c)3s with different boards of directors. Each had their own fundraising efforts and financial oversight. This reorganization merges these organizations into a single entity. Our new board is representative of the previous boards. We have merged our fiscal processes. In addition, our internal organizational structure has adjusted accordingly. You can find our staff listing here.

What Has Not Changed

Hillcrest Transitional Housing’s mission remains the same: to help homeless families become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society. We remain the regional leader in solving homelessness. We will continue to offer 90-day transitional housing programs throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, as well as a rapid re-housing program and youth transitional housing. Our thrift stores in Lenexa and Lee’s Summit remain the same, and are an important piece of the Hillcrest Transitional Housing family. We remain committed to our clients, donors, volunteers and community. In addition, while you now have the ability to make a financial gift for the area of greatest need, you still have the ability to designate a gift for a specific geographic area. Online giving is still available here.

We are excited about the future of Hillcrest Transitional Housing and look forward to counting you as a continued partner in our work. Together, we will help individuals, youth and families overcome barriers to permanent housing, laying a firm foundation for them to rebuild their lives upon.

Thank you for being a part of this remarkable time in the life of Hillcrest Transitional Housing.
