Our Program

Hillcrest provides a transitional housing program for the homeless in multiple communities around the Kansas City metro. Housing sites are located in Independence, Sugar Creek & Lee's Summit in Jackson County, MO; St. Joseph, Buchanan County in Missouri, and in Kansas City & Overland Park in Wyandotte & Johnson Counties in Kansas.

Basic program qualifications

1. Adults must be able to find and maintain 35-40 hours per week of employment.

2. Adult and youth program participants must be able to attend 4-5 weekly sessions for life skills, case management, and budgeting. These will be scheduled around their work and school commitments.

3. Youth program participants must have an educational goal (diploma, GED, college, vo-tech, etc.) and be willing to find 10-15 hours per week of employment.

NOTE: After submitting your online application, please contact the Housing Site you selected as your first choice, by phone or email. If you do not call the Housing Site you picked as your First Choice on a daily basis or as often as possible, your application will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list.

Average waiting list time varies by housing site, but is typically 2-6 weeks. Please make sure to contact the Housing Site daily to check the status of your application. Staff will schedule a personal interview with you when we have a shelter housing unit available for you. Please call your local your local housing site with any questions.

The typical waiting list time for Hillcrest Transitional Housing is 2-6 weeks on average. If you are in need of emergency housing, rent/utility assistance, or want to get on the waiting list for another transitional housing facility, following is a list of local resources.
